Bisphenol A and Heart Disease Ask someone to mention a nasty chemical these days and you’re likely to hear “bisphenol-A.”  It has been making the headlines with great regularity, but not in a positive fashion.  Bisphenol A (BPA) is being accused of undermining our health mostly through its hormonal effects.  The fact that bisphenol A can acts as an estrogen is well established, as is its interference with male hormone activity.  But it has also been associated with liver damage, impairment of pancreatic and thyroid function as well as obesity promotion effects.  Sure sounds nasty.  Especially if we tack on another accusation: increasing the risk of heart disease... more For more, please see Features.		The Liberation Procedure It’s a great name for a possible cure for multiple sclerosis: “The Liberation Procedure.”  Indeed patients suffering from MS feel that their body is being held prisoner by some strange force.  Their arms and legs can grow numb, they experience visual problems, they may get strange tingling sensations and they’re constantly fatigued.  Eventually most lose the ability to control their movements.  Who would not want to be liberated from such a terrible affliction? more For more, please see Features.

When the clergy in St Petersburg were not satisfied with the reforms of Peter the First (1672-1725), they claimed that a statue of the Virgin in the Troitski Cathedral was shedding tears.  Peter came to investigate and discovered small holes bored in the eyes and a little container of lamp oil behind each one.  The warmth coming from a candle softened the oil which then dripped out simulating tears.  Peter said "if the Virgin weeps lamp oil again, the priests' backs will weep with blood."  The icons did not weep any more.   Click here for more interesting facts		- Le doctor Wakefield For more, please see Features.
